ABP’S ‘UNIQUE’ ANNUAL REPORT SCOOPS AWARD

Associated British Ports (ABP), the UK’s largest and leading ports group, has won a special award for its most recent annual report.  The Group’s 2004 report was named “Best Packaging, Visuals & Communication” in a special study of Europe’s best annual reports.

Real IR Magazine, a publication for investor-relations professionals, teamed-up with e.com, the business consultancy, to undertake the study. After deciding that the UK ‘leads the world in reporting governance issues,’ ABP’s report was singled out for being “unique in using pictures that provide the reader with a genuine insight into how the company operates.” Other finalists in the shortlist included Tesco, Allied Domecq and Novartis.

The report, which was produced by Merchant, the corporate design consultancy, in conjunction with design studio NB:Studio, features isometric illustrations that represent the Company’s ports and facilities in an intriguing, colourful and unexpected way.

Adrian Parker, Account Director, Merchant, said: “Over the last four years, ABP’s annual report has become regarded as one of the best in the transport sector, and we wanted to maintain this reputation for the 2004 report. Our brief was to create a design that helped ABP communicate its strong strategic position with its shareholders and we feel we have achieved this through the report’s innovative and approachable design.”

Bo Lerenius, CBE, ABP Group Chief Executive, said: “Although an annual report is ultimately built on the company’s financial results, we also feel that it is essential to make our document as accessible as possible for all of our stakeholders. In this way, we can clearly convey our strategy and growth plans for the future. Our 2004 report has obviously been successful in achieving this, and we are delighted to have won this award."
