GENERAL MOTORS TO ROLL THROUGH AMPORTS’ BENICIA FACILITY
AMPORTS’ car-processing facility in Benicia, California, is set to handle 75,000 Chevrolet Aveos and 18,000 Pontiac GTOs over the next 18 months following a new agreement reached with car-manufacturing giant, General Motors (GM).
GM’s partner, the Holden Company of Australia, will manufacture the GTO, a vehicle synonymous with the ‘muscle car’ era. The Aveo is to be produced by GM’s GM Daewoo Automotive Technologies alliance, and will satisfy the company’s requirements for a product to fill the niche at the budget end of their price-range spectrum.
Jim Davis, Chief Executive Officer of AMPORTS, expressed his satisfaction with the new agreement:
“AMPORTS enjoys a strong relationship with General Motors, with substantial numbers of their vehicles already being processed at our Jacksonville facility in Florida, and our Atlantic Terminal in Baltimore, Maryland. We are, of course, delighted that GM has now chosen AMPORTS to handle their imports on the West Coast. As result of this new agreement, we will be investing in upgraded facilities to accommodate the new account. It is also anticipated that this will create up to 40 new jobs in the area.”
